PROPERTY HISTORY

The Ynystanglwys Estate was developed and built by George Hayes in 1803. He was the owner of Swansea (later Cambrian) Pottery. The Summerhouse, which is of Gothic-style stood on the higher ground above the Mansion, which was later demolished in 1946. It is locally said that Benjamin Hill, a boat builder, scientist and astronomer utilised the Summer House as a laboratory for his works, alongside William Robert Grove. It it believed that the 'Grove Cell' was invented here.
