Dawsons Property continued their longstanding sponsorship of the ever-popular Cracker Sevens at Mumbles RFC this year.

As always, the 3-day festival of rugby took place over the Bank Holiday weekend, August 24-26, in Underhill Park, Mumbles.

The Dawsons loyal sponsorship spans more than two decades and partner James Dawson has been associated with the tournament for many years, having played in the event in his youth and continuing as a sponsor.

“Being a player in the Cracker Sevens and to then go on to sponsor the event year on year is a privilege,” said James. “The event is an annual must for the Dawsons partners, their families, our employees and our business associates.  It really is a thoroughly enjoyable event come rain or shine…  but we were extremely lucky this year to have a scorcher!”

Pughy 9s Rugby sponsored by Dawsons

What is The Pughy 9s?

The Pughy 9s started Bank Holiday Weekend 2017 after the untimely death of the popular young player, Tom Pugh. Now in its 3rd year, this touch rugby tournament has continued to grow in popularity, attracting some 20 teams to take part!

Pughy 9s Rugby sponsored by DawsonsRaising money for charities in Tom’s memory the tournament is well supported by Swansea Uplands RFC (who organise and run it), local people and businesses alike. Dawsons have sponsored a pitch for all 3 years, as well as Killay Office sponsoring a ball at this year’s tournament.

Killay Branch Manager (and all-around living legend) David ‘Dai’ Parton, who represented the club and played with Tom, has played as part of the “Vets” team for all 3 tournaments. Each year they have managed to progress to the Quarter Finals of the Cup. It was the same again this year at which stage they were knocked out 3-1 against a strong Gower Rangers Team.

A Cup and Shield competition are run after the first rounds of Pool matches. This year Penclawdd came out on top of the Shield and Uplands Youth won the Cup.

Pughy 9s Rugby sponsored by DawsonsAfter the rugby comes to an end, the clubhouse is packed with all players and supporters. Some tales of the day at the fore amongst the Vets, that’s for sure and as the evening wears on teammates, friends and family let off balloons in Toms memory. Always a poignant moment and a chance to reflect and think about a top man!

Rhos Ladies

Dawsons-sponsored Rhos Ladies enjoy impressive first season

In only their first season Rhos Ladies, whose training tops were sponsored by Dawsons Property, finished runners up in the West Wales League.

In a fine season they also only just lost out in the final of the West Wales Cup losing to Dafen 4-3 at Britton Ferry.

In the cup final Rhos dominated for large periods of the game but were denied by the Dafen goalkeeper who pulled off a number of excellent saves.

Rhos have now been promoted and are just below Swansea City Ladies in the Welsh League.

“We are delighted to be sponsoring the Raft Race especially as it is raising money for such good causes,” said Chris Hope, Dawsons Senior Partner.

“One of our offices is in Llanelli and many of our staff are from the Burry Port area, so we had no hesitation in getting involved.

burryportraftfb“It promises to be a fun day for everyone and I know many of our staff are looking forward to getting involved and raising valuable money for charity.”

Added Chris: “Why not come down and support the raft race in the beautiful harbour setting of Burry Port.”

The event is being covered by TV, radio and the written media and promises to be a memorable evening.

You can enter a team made up of 4 to 10 adults, aged 16 years and over. Entry is £50 and each team is being asked to raise a minimum of £100 deposit.

All crews are required to design and build their own rafts and paddles using begged, borrowed but not stolen materials.

Awards are on offer including best dressed raft, last raft over the line and first to sink.

There will be food and drink available, live music and special guests: Cyril The Swan, Cochyn The Dragon (Scarlets mascot) and your favourite characters from The Party Factory. There will also be children’s inflatables there.

As well as Dawsons the event is also being sponsored by the Llanelli Star, JR Events & Catering, Burns Pet Nutrition and Burry Port Co-op.

Dawsons Estate Agents are to continue their longstanding sponsorship of the ever-popular Cracker 7s, which takes place during a three-day festival of rugby over the August Bank Holiday weekend in Underhill Park, Mumbles.

And organiser Martin Rodwell, chairman of Mumbles RFC, has praised Dawsons’ loyal sponsorship of one of Mumbles’ best known social events.

This year the event has special significance as the weekend of events begins on Friday (6.30pm) with a game in memory of Jonathan Thomas, who lost his life in tragic circumstances last November, between a Mumbles XV and a Jon Thomas Invitation XV.
