DAWSONS GET CREATIVE WITH SKETTY SCHOOL AND BEAVER SCOUTS

Dawsons’ staff have been spending time in the local community in supporting children’s academic and creative achievements.

Our Sketty Sales Branch Manager Alison Morris was invited to visit the children in year 1 at Sketty Primary School last November to assist in their term’s project: ‘Houses and Homes’.

Alison along with Naomi Webborn of Dawsons Marketing team spent time in the classroom helping the children to understand the process of selling a house. There were games and prizes and a question and answer session, where the children were already able to differentiate between house styles – detached, semi-detached, terraced.

Also during November Dawsons’ partner James Dawson, along with both the sales and the lettings directors Jo Summerfield Talbot and Ricky Purdy, joined the 44th Sketty Beaver Scouts for an evening of Lego creations.

Using Lego kindly donated by parents and friends of the 44th Scout troop, the beaver lodges set out to build the most original house with their team-mates which was e judged at the end of the evening by Dawsons, who kindly supplied the winning beaver lodge with a Lego set each to take home.

All beavers received their Lego badge along with the Dawsons team, who had as much fun as the children during the creative session.

Whilst Dawsons staff are dealing with all things property, their marketing team are always on the lookout for how they can assist our local communities here in Swansea and Llanelli.

Budding Sketty School artist celebrates Dawsons’ competition win

Proud Sketty Primary School pupil Angelina Chugh is celebrating after having her winning drawing emblazoned on a Dawsons Property van.

The 10-year-old, who is in year six at Sketty Primary School, took top prize in the competition organised by Dawsons Estate Agents involving over 60 pupils from the school.

Angelina was delighted to see her drawings on all angles of the van which is seen daily in and around Swansea.

The theme of the competition was to draw a picture depicting family, houses and Swansea.

“I was really delighted to learn I was the winner because I have never won anything before,” said Angelina.

“It will be exciting to see the van driving around Swansea with my drawings and my name on the side.”

Naomi Webborn from Dawsons letting department said: “We were delighted with all the colourful entries received and Angelina’s winning pictures look perfect on the van.  We have already received several positive comments from those who have seen the van pass them this week.”

“We wanted to brighten up the van so decided it was a good idea to involve the school children from Sketty whom we have involved in some of Dawsons projects previously.

“Due to the enthusiastic response received we shall be looking to host competitions of a similar nature during the coming year, throughout our local communities.”

For winning the competition, which was judged by Swansea graphic design firm Hansign, Angelina was also presented with a family ticket for four to use at the Winter Wonderland whilst she waited for her van drawings to become a reality.

Headteacher at Sketty School Peter Evans said: “Well done to Angelina, I was delighted with the standard of the children’s work and to be asked to enter such a fun competition.”

Swansea estate agent teams up with Sketty School to raise funds at their annual summer fair

Leading estate agent Dawsons is no stranger to pledging their support to the local community, and after running a number of fundraisers in recent months for their chosen charity The Wallich, the firm turned its attention to Sketty School.

The school is close to many staff member’s hearts, in fact Dawsons’ very own Dan Guttery sits on its board of governors, and with the school’s summer fair coming up, he spied an opportunity to introduce some great family fun and raise essential funds in the same breath.

“The Sketty School Summer Fair is always a great day out and this year’s event was no exception. I came up with an idea that would help raise funds during the fair and offer something different for all who attended. Children were invited to guess the number of balloons in the car and whoever guessed correctly or closest won a prize. Overall the day was a great success, the weather held off and the ‘guess the number of balloons’ competition was a definite hit,” said Dan, who works in the lettings department at Dawsons’ Walter Road office.

The Dawsons’ balloon car competition cost £1 to enter and the winner won £25. The car contained 165 balloons and though competitors did not guess the exact total, the lucky winner’s guess was 161.

The summer fair was held on school grounds this month and was organised by the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). With funds available to local schools considerably less than years gone by, ideas and events like these are being used to make up some of the shortfall. Money raised at previous fairs has supported various projects at Sketty School, including the creation of a new library, and the purchase of musical instruments and playground equipment.

A spokesperson for the PTA said: “Fundraising is an essential part of the PTA’s role and we make a significant contribution to the school’s activities.

So far this year we have funded £1000 per for the teachers to spend on sundries such as paint, paper, and other materials for crafts. Also, Annual school membership for Techniquest, the marking of the netball court, purchase of table tennis tables and an “Explorer’s Shed” for Years 1 & 2 and finally funding of the school’s Active Learn Reading Scheme.

“It is fantastic that we are able to support these local events, and we do so in any way possible as they are such important causes. I know the fair was a great success, and hopefully our small involvement helped on the day,” concluded Ricky Purdy, Director of Residential Lettings.
