Schools out for Summer – week 1

Yes kids! It’s that amazing time of the year when you don’t have to get up for school and can spend long days playing with your friends and having a whale of a time.

Ok parents, it’s that time of the year when you are pulling your hair out and wondering what the heck to do every day to keep the kids amused, and you relatively sane.

So over the next few weeks we will be helping you out with some of our favourite local children’s events happening over the Summer holidays and whilst we are at it, we will try to give you a little break at home (so you can get to watch at least a re-run of last night’s Love Island) by providing you with a picture to download and get the kids to colour in.

So this week our ‘Schools out for Summer’ theme is PIRATES!

‘Oohhh Aarrggghhh Me Hearties’

As you may already know Wales is celebrating its YEAR OF THE SEA and so the museum has a FREE family-friendly exhibition on all through the Summer holidays from 10am to 5pm daily.  You can find out all about the history of pirates and buccaneers all over the world, hear tales of treason and treachery, not to mention treasure.  Check out the museum website for further details.

Mark Matthews - the winner of Dawsons' Sell your House for Free competition

Nurse Mark named as Dawsons’ winner of ‘sell your home for free’ competition

Dawsons Property is delighted to announce Mark Matthews as the winner of their ‘Sell Your Home for Free’ competition.

Mark, who has put his house on the market with Dawsons in Heol Islwyn, Penyrheol, for £120,000, will get his fees for free from the leading south Wales estate agent.

A nurse at Neath Port Talbot hospital Mark was the lucky winner who was randomly picked out ahead of scores of eligible Dawsons clients. Anyone who put their property up for sale were entered in to the competition with the winner paying no agent fees.

“I was absolutely delighted to find out I had won this competition especially as I have just had a bad experience with an online agent.  It’s a win-win situation for me,” said Mark.

“Dawsons sold a house for me a few years ago but this time I decided to go with the online agent after being seduced by their claims of low fees, which I now massively regret, as has left me ‘out of pocket’ and my property not sold.

“Dawsons are especially pro-active with that personal touch and I think that goes a long way when you are selling a property.”

Jo Summerfield-Talbot, Dawsons’ Director of Sales, said: “We are delighted Mark has emerged as winner of our competition especially as he has had such a bad experience previously.

“Being a Hight Street agent it is all about the close-knit communities we work within, so we decided it would be a great idea to try and give something back to the lucky winner by selling their home for free. It has been a great success and congratulations to Mark.”

Dawsons estate agent has donated 27 high vis jackets to Tre Uchaf School in Loughor.

Head Teacher Christine Hewitt said the school were delighted with the contribution of the high vis jackets from Dawsons’ branch in Gorseinon.

“The high vis jackets are a very welcome gift from Dawsons. They will be used regularly by our younger classes while out and about in the community and on school trips and they will help ensure that the children are seen and safe,” she said.

Dawsons’ staff in Gorseinon Amanda Bamford, Sales Negotiator, and Simon McLaren, Senior Sales Negotiator, went to the school in person to present the jackets to Mrs Hewitt and the children.

“We were delighted to be able to go to the school and present the infants with these high vis jackets. It is very important for the children to be as safe as possible when they go on school visits,” said Amanda.

While they were at the school Simon and Amanda also judged the Infants’ Easter Bonnet Parade and the Juniors’ Easter Decorate an Egg Competition (see pictures below).

Sketty School pupil Angelina Chugh

Budding Sketty School artist celebrates Dawsons’ competition win

Proud Sketty Primary School pupil Angelina Chugh is celebrating after having her winning drawing emblazoned on a Dawsons Property van.

The 10-year-old, who is in year six at Sketty Primary School, took top prize in the competition organised by Dawsons Estate Agents involving over 60 pupils from the school.

Angelina was delighted to see her drawings on all angles of the van which is seen daily in and around Swansea.

The theme of the competition was to draw a picture depicting family, houses and Swansea.

“I was really delighted to learn I was the winner because I have never won anything before,” said Angelina.

“It will be exciting to see the van driving around Swansea with my drawings and my name on the side.”

Naomi Webborn from Dawsons letting department said: “We were delighted with all the colourful entries received and Angelina’s winning pictures look perfect on the van.  We have already received several positive comments from those who have seen the van pass them this week.”

“We wanted to brighten up the van so decided it was a good idea to involve the school children from Sketty whom we have involved in some of Dawsons projects previously.

“Due to the enthusiastic response received we shall be looking to host competitions of a similar nature during the coming year, throughout our local communities.”

For winning the competition, which was judged by Swansea graphic design firm Hansign, Angelina was also presented with a family ticket for four to use at the Winter Wonderland whilst she waited for her van drawings to become a reality.

Headteacher at Sketty School Peter Evans said: “Well done to Angelina, I was delighted with the standard of the children’s work and to be asked to enter such a fun competition.”

Dawsons staff bid to win The Wallich’s charity fundraising challenge

Dawsons Estate Agents has just 50 days to turn £50 into a small fortune.

The challenge – known as Clash of the Corporates – is a competition run by homeless charity The Wallich.

Twenty businesses across Wales are competing to see who can turn a £50 loan from The Wallich into the most money in 50 days.

Dawsons has hit the ground running with a programme of money-raising events that includes a cake sale, a curry night, an auction and Halloween fundraising activities.

“We’ve got lots of other ideas in the pipeline,” Ricky Purdy, Director of Residential Lettings, Dawsons. “Suggestions have included car washing and pop up shops – it’s going to be a lot of fun and visitors to our branches should find it amusing.”

The £50 to start the competition was presented to Ricky by Zoe Westerman, corporate strategic relationships manager for The Wallich.

“Clash of the Corporates is a great way to bring the local business community together through some healthy competition,” said Zoe. “We’re looking forward to seeing what innovative and creative fundraising ideas the Dawsons team will come up with to help raise vital funds for our charity.”

Any money raised will boost the £1,300 Dawsons has already raised for the Wallich, which is its chosen charity of the year.

“Our staff selected The Wallich as the company’s charity of choice for the year because it has a number of shelters in Swansea,” said Ricky.

“The staff have really thrown themselves into it, and the Clash of the Corporates will be their biggest challenge yet. It’s going to be a really interesting 50 days! We just want to get the staff involved to have as much fun as they have in recent months and raise money for a good cause along the way.”
